Should the fork be pointing up or down?

After a meal, the fork and knife should be placed on the plate. Should we leave the fork pointing upwards or downwards? Or does it matter?

What about the spoon for the soup? Should it be placed inside the bowl (up or down) or on the saucer?

My wife says it should be put in the dishwasher
